Salon d'art 개관 특별 전시회내 마음 별과 가치

나는 주로 인간 동물과 비인간 동물이 중첩된 형상을 다루는데 이는 우리가 서로 다르지 않고 연결되어 있다는 것을 강조할 수 있게 한다. 비인간 동물 중에는 우리가 놓치고 가는 존재가 있고, 놓치고 싶지 않은 존재가 있다. 놓치고 가는 존재는 마트나 식당에서 혹은 인간 동물의 식탁에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 닭, 돼지, 소 등이고 놓치고 싶지 않은 존재는 나와 일상을 함께 나누는 개이다. 나는 이 두 존재를 중첩 시켜 하나의 형상을 만들었다. 이들의 생명의 가치가 다르지 않다고 생각한다.

나는 흙을 쌓아 올리며 구체적인 형상을 만든다. 나의 작업은 성형하고 건조하는 시간이 소형 작업은 일주일 이상, 그보다 더 큰 작업은 한 달 이상 소요된다. 그리고 소성燒成(불에 구워서 만듦)은 보통 10시간, 냉각 시간은 이틀 정도 걸린다. 하나의 작업이 완성되기까지 이처럼 인고忍苦의 시간이 필요한데 모든 일은 잘될 수도 안 될 수도 있지만 잘되기를 바라는 마음으로 하루하루를 살아가듯, 나의 작업이 가마에 들어가 있는 동안 잘 나오기를 바라는 마음으로 한 시간 한 시간을 기다린다.

나는 동물형상이 마치 사람처럼 보이게 만들고자 했다. 어떠한 포즈나 행위를 통해 우리가 잘 보지 못하는 비인간 동물이 처한 현실에 대해 알리고, 우리가 서로 연결되어 있음을 말하고자 한다. 동물을 보는 관점은 다른 사람을 보는 관점으로 이어지기도 한다. 서로의 다름을 찾아 차별을 두는 것에 대해 경계하고 다르다는 이유로 차별받는 존재의 고통과 연대한다. 오랜 시간 공들여 만든 결과물이 깨지지 않게 애지중지 보살펴지기를 바라며, 동시대의 살아있는 존재로서 인정받지 못하는 우리가 놓치고 있는 존재, 약자 중의 약자인 비인간 동물도 소중히 보살펴지기를 바란다.
